Double Verification Banking Security (SCA)

16 September 2019  |  Admin

SCA (Strong Customer Authentication), will be introduced by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) on behalf of the EU from 14th September, 2019. The changes will apply to online purchases made from any retailer with multi-factor authentication.

What is SCA payment?

Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a new European regulatory requirement to reduce fraud and make online payments more secure. To accept payments once SCA goes into effect, you will need to build additional authentication into your checkout flow.

What’s changing?

To help prevent fraud extra security checks (double of verification) will be made when you pay online. These checks are applied randomly by your card issuer. When making a purchase you may be asked for a one-off code which your card issuer will send to your smartphone or in some cases you can opt for the code to be sent by email.

Anything else I should do?

It may be advisable to ensure your bank or card issuer has your up to date contact information. And of course you’ll need to keep your phone handy when you make an online purchase.
Should you need any further information about SCA you should contact your bank.
